Matt also gets into recording your first few cringy episodes and eventually knowing your identity as a host. Stay tuned, and enjoy the podcast!
An Enjoyable and Cringeworthy Start to Podcasting – Don’t Miss the Conversation!
From a love of being in front of the camera and speaking, Matt started the podcast, but it wasn’t easy. Just within two days of getting the idea, he went to a local store and found out that there was no way he’ll spend so much on audio equipment. So, what he did was go to his local Facebook Marketplace and got everything there instead! After setting things up, Matt and another friend sat down and recorded five episodes, and ended up scrapping three! It was a sharp learning curve over time, and he admits that he was still in the process of learning.
As generic as it sounds, podcasting comes down to doing it over and over. Matt’s says that he cringes on his first 15 episodes for sounding so robotic. That’s because he was trying to be proper and was also trying to copy another show! In your case, you might be trying to force yourself on a script you’ve written or fit yourself in a category or theme that you think fits your vision. However, after every episode, you get better, and your true identity comes out! You’ll realize what works and what doesn’t. After talking to so many people, like in Chase’s experience, you’ll find out that you keep missing the conversation because you’re trying too hard! Feel free to talk about random things that come up in your head or funny things that you discover on the internet. Just be yourself!
Building Relationships Through Podcasting You Otherwise Couldn’t
One of the most significant benefits of podcasting to Matt was that it allowed him to connect with his guests. Some of them he already knew or haven’t talked to in a long time. But because of the podcast, he’s able to talk to them again and re-spark those relationships that he wanted to make! In this day and age, not everyone is happy to accept an invitation to drink coffee (especially from a stranger on the internet), but most will be more inclined to take on an offer to speak on your podcast!
